Mardi Gras in Annapolis was just as crazy as ever, with beads flying, drinks pouring and everyone having all sorts of fun. In case you missed any of the madness, the winner of both best Hurricane and most creative booth at the Hurricane contest was Pusser's, followed by Sly Fox, sweeping second place in both categories.
Of course, Mardi Gras in Annapolis doesn't end until the Gumbo contest is decided, and that will happen on Sunday at Loew's Annapolis Hotel (126 West St.) from 1 until 4 p.m. This culinary treat of an event will feature more than 20 chefs competing for title of best Gumbo chef in the area. Admission to the 2006 Chefs Signature Gumbo Competition and Tasting costs only $10 (kids under 10 are free). The first 300 people to buy their ticket receive free Mardi Gras beads.
If you didn't get your fill of gumbo on Tuesday, or if you're trying to find the best place to get it, any time of year, this is your perfect opportunity. Each gumbo is eligible for two awards - Judge's Choice and People's Choice.
The Judge's panel is composed of a host of local celebrities. The People's Choice award, of course, is where you come in - your judging will determine the winner of that award.
The entrant with the best-decorated booth will also receive a prize. A portion of the proceeds from the Chef's Competition will benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina through a program organized by the Restaurant Association of Maryland.
This is more than just a Gumbo contest, however. It's a party, with fantastic live music provided by Ben's Bones and all sorts of festive, Mardi Gras-themed beverages. If you didn't let the good times roll enough on Tuesday, make sure you don't miss this party.
